Windstorm Claims Information
We hope that you never have a Texas windstorm insurance loss but if you do here are some suggestions for processing your claim:
Your safety is most important. Don't stay in an area if it is dangerous.
Take reasonable steps to protect your property from further damage. For example moving property from a damaged room to a secure area. Or covering damaged areas with a tarp or protective covering. If you incur costs to protect property from further damage, save receipts as this will normally be covered by you policy. (See policy for coverage's)
Make necessary and reasonable temporary repairs ONLY to protect property. Don't make any temporary repairs that would prevent the adjuster from seeing the reported damage. Wait for your claim to be adjusted before making the permanent repairs.
Notify your agent as soon as possible. We will contact the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association and the TWIA will make arrangements to have an adjuster contact you.
If your agent cannot be reached you can call 1-800-788-8247. The recording will have instructions on how to report your claim.
TWIA will mail you a copy of the claim notice acknowledgment and identify the adjusting firm that will handle your claim.
Take photographs of the damage and give them to the adjuster.
Review the notice that came with your policy "Important Notice for Insured's".
