Whenever possible we include wind coverage with a hazard policy. In certain costal areas most insurance companies will not sell windstorm insurance because of the high level of risk. The state of Texas has set up a program to provide this insurance. This is called a Texas Windstorm Insurance Policy (TWIP).

Can I get a windstorm policy directly from the state?

No, this insurance is only available from agents that are appointed by the state. (Like us for example!)

Can a home in any area get a Texas windstorm policy?

No, there are 14 counties along the Texas gulf coast and parts of Harris County that are eligible for this insurance. The counties are Aransas, Brazoria, Calhoun, Cameron, Chambers, Galveston, Harris County (partial), Jefferson, Kennedy, Kleberg, Nueces, Refugio, San Patricio, and Willace.

Why can't homes in other counties get Texas windstorm coverage?

In other counties regular insurance companies provide windstorm coverage with their hazard insurance package so the state doesn't need to help.

What is a WPI-8 and why would I need one?

This is a building code compliance certificate. If you have one please forward it to us with your quote request. If you don't have your certificate we can see if it is on file at the Texas Department of Insurance.

How much does windstorm insurance cost?

This depends on the value of your home and contents, the location, what deductable you select and other rating factors. We will be happy to get you a quote.

How does your price compare with other companies for a TWIP policy?

Rates are set by the state and should be the same no matter where you get it. However we may be able to save you money by insuring that you get any possible discounts.

If I already have a TWIP policy should I switch to your company to save money?

Probably not. In most cases the rate will be the same. However if you are not happy with the service from your current company we will be happy to have your business.

Can I purchase a policy and have it start immediately?

In most cases you can. If there is a tropical storm in the gulf binding of insurance is suspended until the storm is over.
